COMMON CAUSE, COMMON SOLUTIONS: SHAPING INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISM IN THE CARIBBEAN AND THE DIASPORA

VISIT www.NACAJ.org FOR MORE INFORMATION

The NACAJ Media Awards recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the Caribbean and its Diaspora community and the issues that affect their lives.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Eligibility period:  January 1, 2009 – June 30, 2010

Call for Submissions:  Entries are accepted at any time during the calendar year, before the submission deadline.

Submission deadline:  Materials must be received by July 6, 2008, 6:00 p.m. PT

Why is the submission deadline before the end of the eligibility period? NACAJ will consider media images which appear during the month of JUNE.  However, we require that all media projects which appeared before June 30 be submitted by May 25 deadline via email.  If you have a project that you know will appear during the month of December, please contact NACAJ at nacaj@nacaj.org to make special arrangements for submission.

Must a media project be submitted in order to be nominated?

Mainstream Media – NACAJ monitors mainstream media on a year-round basis as part of our work to fight defamation and promote fair, accurate, and inclusive Caribbean and Caribbean-American images in the media.  This monitoring provides a pool of potential nominees for the volunteer juries to review.  The volunteer juries may choose to nominate NACAJ images from these media outlets – even if the image is not submitted.

Media Outlets Created By and For the Caribbean Audience – NACAJ does not monitor media created by and for the NACAJ community for defamation – therefore we do not generate a pool of potential nominees.  Furthermore, the limited availability and distribution of this media means NACAJ is not physically able to monitor it.  Therefore ALL media outlets that are created by and for the Caribbean and Diaspora community MUST submit their programming and journalism in order for it to be eligible for nomination.

Nominees announced: Nominees will be announced on July 1, 2010.

Award Recipients announced:  Award recipients are announced the first NACAJ Media Awards Ceremony on August 24, 2010 in Jamaica. Watch website for details.

HOW TO SUBMIT

Send an entry with supporting materials to NACAJ via e-mail at nacaj@nacaj.org.  If you have additional questions after you have reviewed the entry form, please e-mail nacaj@nacaj.org
