Welcome.

The National Association of Caribbean-American Journalists, in collaboration with Investigative Editors and Reporters, outstanding journalists from the Jamaica Observer and the Sunday Herald newspapers, is proud to present our bi-annual conference at the Mayfair Hotel in Kingston, Jamaica, December 16-19, 2010.

The 2010 conference will feature the Russworm Excellence Award (REA) Ceremony and a day and a half of Better Watch Dog reporting and writing workshops. The REA award will go to a U.S. based or Caribbean based journalist who has done outstanding work about the Caribbean and its Diaspora in the United States.

The watchdog workshop is one of the best journalism training in the U.S. where journalists can get the tools to elevate their journalistic skills beyond the daily journalism grind. We are happy to team up with Mark Horvitz and his staff at IRE to bring this brand of training to the Caribbean.

This conference presents a unique opportunity for journalists in the Caribbean as well as the US. U.S.-based journalists are looking forward to learning from their peers in Jamaica and other islands about the trials and triumphs of doing journalism at a time when the business of journalism worldwide is facing unprecedented challenges.

Our decision to be in Jamaica was a timely one. It came after a colleague from Jamaica reached out to the NACAJ to help bolster better journalism at his media house. We are aware of the many difficulties faced in doing good journalism in the Caribbean. We face challenges here in the U.S. too; but we accepted the invitation to be in Jamaica and pledged to help. That was one year ago.
Now, we are in the final weeks of preparation. And we are excited. We have a great program line up. So register for the conference and book your reservations now.

We hope to see you in Jamaica.
